朝散歩 Morning walk

 隣の６丁目を歩いていて、久しぶりに通った小路です。両側に、雑草ではあるけど綺麗な花が満開状態でした。

ここは急斜面にある住宅地で、この写真の左側の地面とは数メートルの段差があります。私は高所恐怖症なので、めったに通らない小路ですが、今朝はタイガ様のお供で通りました。

We walked the neighbouring district and came across a narrow path with wild plants in full bloom.  This area is very hilly and the place we are standing is several meters higher than the ground level on the left in this photo.  Since I have a fear of heights, I try to avoid this path but, this morning, Taiga wanted to walk here.

普段は迷惑な雑草と思っているナガミヒナゲシですが、こうやって見ると絵になります。

I regard the common wild poppies as nuisance normally, but they looked pretty this morning in this context.

黄色のは名前を知らない山野草ふうの花でした。

The yellow flowers, too, can be found anywhere.

タイガは目の前しか見ないので、右側の数メートルの崖は気になりません。

Dogs are also scared of heights, I am told.  However, Taiga sees only what is immediately in front of her, so the cliff on the right does not bother her.

午後散歩 Afternoon walk

天気が良いので早めの午後散歩に出かけました。都立城北公園手前にある、区が管理する元畑の草地ではハナダイコンがまだ咲いています。

It was such a sunny day and we went out for an early afternoon walk.  First, we walked through the field that used to be used as a vegetable farm.  The Dame's violet is still flowering.

ここは公園というより原っぱの状態で一般に提供されているところなので、草も自然に近い状態で青々しています。フキの葉が出ているところや、チューリップの葉が密集しているところなど、昔のなごりがあります。

This field is looked after by the Ward Office, whereas Johoku Park comes under the management of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.  With less budget of the Ward Office, the grass is left almost untouched (they cut it only a few times during summer), but I like it this way.

タイガは花よりダンゴで、イネ科の雑草をサラダにしていました。

Taiga is only interested in eating the grass.

城北中央公園手前の桜並木は、もうすっかり散ってしまっています。先週末は花見客でごった返していたのが、今日は静かでした。

The cherry trees in the Johoku Park have lost most of their petals.  This place was packed with people last weekend, enjoying picnic parties from morning till night.  Now it is all quiet.

今日の最高気温は26度で、何を着て出かければよいのか分からないほど。

The maximum temperature reached 26℃ today and the direct sun was almost painful on the skin.

桜のあとはハナミズキ。赤花の木が咲き始めていました。

With cherry trees on their way out, dogwoods are coming into season. 

午後散歩 Afternoon Walk

 今日の良い天気をムダにしたくなかったので、4時半頃、早めの夕方散歩に出かけました。中央公園手前の草地は、花見客がまだ多く残っていました。人のなかを歩いているうちに知り合いに声を掛けられました。その人の今年12歳なるワンコや他の同い年のワンコの飼い主さんたちが集まって、朝からずっと花見をしていたそうです。金網の横にシートを敷いているので、金網には誕生日を祝うアルファベットの大きな文字まで並べてありました。朝からずっとなんて、ものすごい体力。消化機能の落ちた私は食事の後は眠ってしまうのでムリです。

We went out after 4:30 p.m. for an early evening walk in order to take advantage of the good weather.  There were a lot of people lingering in the Johoku Central Park, long after their picnic lunches.  As we were walking through a throng of people, someone called out to me.  She and a group of friends with dogs aged 12 years old were having a picnic under the cherry tree, with a banner "Happy Anniversary".  Their party started early in the morning and they had been there all the time.  What endurance!  

せっかくの青空ですが、夕方近い光なので桜が綺麗に写らない。

Although the sky was clear, the cherry blossoms were looking dark in the evening light.

川を渡って中央公園へ移動。

We crossed the river to the central part of the park.

満開のソメイヨシノを近くで見ると、必ず思い出すのがカエルの卵。子供の頃、まだ寒い田んぼの水たまりには大量のカエルの卵が産みつけられていて、中心の黒い点の配列が規則的・工業的で、満開のソメイヨシノを連想させていました。カエルの卵を見かけない今は、その逆。

The blossoms of the Somei-yoshino variety always remind me of frog eggs.  When I was a child living in the countryside, I used to find a lot of frog eggs in the rice field in early spring.  The dark spots were laid out so regularly and industrially that they reminded me of cherry blossoms.  Now I live in Tokyo and never get to see frog eggs, seeing cherry blossoms has the reverse effect.

桜の木の近くで、不思議な２匹の猫に出会いました（写真左には黒猫）。チャトラの猫は散歩用にかっこよいハーネスを装着しています。

Nearby, I saw an unusual sight.  Tow very calm cats (on the left side of the photo is a black cat).  One of them was a beautiful ginger.

犬連れの私に向かってズンズン近寄ってくるので、タイガはそばのベンチで待機するよう指示しました。猫はカメラを向けている私に接近。

Even though I was with a dog, the ginger cat was unfazed and approached me.  So, I told Taiga to stay at the bench nearby.  The cat kept creeping up to me...

私の服にはタイガの臭いが染みついているはずなのに、嫌悪感を見せずに臭い嗅ぎ。

My clothes must smell of Taiga but the cat showed no aversion.

手の臭いを嗅いでも平気そうでした。前足を膝に乗せられた瞬間、じゅわ～っと愛情が沸いてきました。

Likewise, with the smell on my hand.  The moment he put his paw on my knee, I melted completely.

タイガは通常、遠くに野良ネコを見ると嬉々として追いかけようとしますが、近くに寄ってこられると身動きできなくなる臆病者です。なので、このネコさんにガン飛ばしされて固まってしまいました。

Normally, when Taiga spots a cat in the distance, she would happily try to chase it.  However, being such a coward, she freezes if the cat comes closer to her.  Similarly, as this cat glanced towards Taiga, she did not know what to do.

ベンチに座っていた若い女性がタイガを慰めてくれました。

近くにいた黒いネコさんとは今日偶然に出会っただけの仲だそうですが、お互い完全に落ち着いています。飼い主さんたちの話では、いずれのネコも幼いときに保護された子たちだそうです。

These two cats happened to meet today for the first time, but they are so calm with each other.  Both of them were rescued and adopted when they were kittens.

その後は林づたいにゆっくり散策。

After that, we walked through woods.

久しぶりに会った超ミニ柴のスズちゃん。この子が赤ちゃんのうちから群れに参加して、自分より何倍も大きなワンコたちと遊んでいたので、怖いもの知らずの懐こい子に育っています。生憎、今日はオヤツを忘れてきたので残念でした。

We ran into Suzu, a tiny miniature Shiba Inu.  When she was a puppy, she joined a pack of larger dogs and she grew up to be a fearless individual.  As she is so adorable, I always want to spoil her with my homemade jerky.  Unfortunately, I forgot to bring some this afternoon.  It pains me to think that I disappointed her.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 予報では今日も雨とのことでしたが、朝の７時過ぎから止んでいました。ほんの少しの青空がのぞくだけでも嬉しいです。早速タイガの朝散歩。今朝は川沿いに公園とは逆方向の、旧としま園の方角へ歩きました。桜はほぼ満開状態です。私はいつでも花見ができるけど、通勤の人たちにとって、今日の日曜日にこの状態はラッキーだったと思います。

The weather forecast proved wrong and the rain stopped after 7:00 this morning.  Although the sky was only partially blue, it made me happy and we left home for Taiga's morning walk.  The cherry trees were almost in full bloom.  For me, it does not matter much since I can look at them any time I want to, but people who have to go to work can enjoy the cherry blossoms only at weekends.  So, they must be happy, too.

桜とのコントラストで黄花オキザリスも綺麗。　　

Yellow-flower oxalis was also in season and provided a nice contrast with the cherry blossoms.

タイガにポーズをとらせていたら、通りがかりの人に「甲斐犬ですか」と尋ねられました。よその人に褒められるのが大好きなタイガは嬉しそうです。

As I was taking Taiga's photos, a passer-by recognised Taiga's breed and wanted to stroke her.  Taiga loves getting praises from strangers.

橋を渡ってさらに歩いていると、いつものお地蔵さんのコーナーに到着。

We crossed the river and walked to the spot where jizo statue was.

今日も新鮮な花とお水が供えられています。

As always, he was provided with fresh water and flowers.

桜並木の狭い歩道を先へ進むと、

初対面の子に会えました。３歳の黒柴の女の子で、名前は「ちゃ」。「ちゃ」という名前はこの子で３代目だそうです。最初の「ちゃ」は茶色の柴、２代目は茶色のコーギー、そしてこの３代目は、伝統だから「ちゃ」だそうです。

a new face: 3-year old black Shiba girl named "Cha" (meaning 'brown').  She is the 3rd Cha in the family.  The first one was a brown Shiba Inu, the second one was a brown Corgi, and this third one was called Cha because the name had become a family tradition.

最初はタイガを警戒していたのですが、タイガのお尻の臭い嗅ぎをさせたら急にリラックスしました。

Cha was very nervous of Taiga at first but, after I allowed her to sniff taiga's rear end, she calmed down.

ころころの体形でとてもカワイイです。

With her chubby figure, she is very cute.

折り返し地点の橋のうえでパチリ。右岸はイチョウ並木の道です。春は桜、秋はイチョウの黄葉を見ながら散歩できます。

The turning point: we head home after crossing the river at this point.  On the left, we have cherry trees and, on the right, we have ginkgo trees.  So, we can enjoy the walk in spring and autumn.

イチョウ並木の横は某大学の広大な運動場ですが、今日は小学生の野球大会があるようで、数十チームの子供たちと、コーチ、保護者、大会の運営係、ブラスバンドなど、大勢の人で賑わっていました。近くに駅がない場所なので、自転車の係留地のスペースも半端ないです。

 Behind the gingko trees lies a vast sports ground belonging to a university.  Today, it was used for a big baseball event for elementary school boys.  There were so many teams, coaches, parents, event organisers, as well as the brass band.  Since there is no train station nearby, the ground next door was filled with bicycles.

帰り道で、以前、城北公園で会ったことのある黒柴のペコちゃんに会えました。保護された子なので、年齢は推定で10歳だそうです。タイガを警戒しているので、飼い主さんがだっこを始めました。これが逆効果であることは、ドッグトレーナーでない私は黙っておきました。人それぞれ飼い方はあるし、うちの隣に住んでいるワンコではないので。。。

On our way home, we met a black Shiba girl whom we had met once at Johoku Park.  She was adopted by the current owners and is estimated to be around 10 years old - close to Taiga who will be 11 next month.  As she was ready to bark at Taiga, her mom picked her up - wrong thing to do in such a situation, but I held my peace since I was not a dog trainer.

いかにも幸せそうな顔。

At any rate, she looks very happy in her mom's arms.

うちまでの道のりはまだあるというのに、タイガが勝手に休憩所を選んだようです。以前、散歩中にここで休んでオヤツをもらったことを思い出したのかも。

We still had some way to go before reaching home, but Taiga discovered a spot where she would be happy to rest.  She must have remembered that we stopped here before and she got a treat.
